September Phone Favorites

September was HOT and wet. If it wasn't blazing hot it was raining and all we wanted was for the weather to cool down. It was a calm and slow month and I loved it! Here is a round up of this months phone favorites.

Sprout is a wonderful helper. Baby for sale only 1.69 (limit four).

HOME DEPOT DAY!!!!

Sprout could play with Play Doh for hours... and we did!

Play date at the park.

While at the park Sprout fell and ripped his toe open. It was bleeding everywhere and poor boy was losing his mind. 

At first I thought his toe nail was ripped off, but once we got home and got him cleaned up it was just his skin ripped back. Napping was a nightmare, all he wanted was his Daddy. 

 E found a leaf as big as her face while on an adventure with Gramma and Pa.

Just enjoying IKEA. Don't worry, I took his shoes off.

It got into the 70's one day this week and we were HERE. FOR. IT!!!

Sometimes you just have to waste an entire afternoon making a hockey jersey for your elf (the Chief's jersey is from a few years ago.) Go Knights! Go Chiefs. 

ANNNNNND that's a wrap. Nice, easy, calm. Now onto OcTOBLER and pumpkins, the promise of cooler weather and our final month before baby boy arrives!!! HOLY MOSES!!! This month is going to FLY by!

Renn Fair

 This year we decided to take the kids to the Renaissance  Festival with us and I am so gosh darn glad we did! they had such a great time.

 Getting dragon tears from pirates. This guy was funny, and the kids were pretty stoked about the dragon tears. 

 After awhile we met up with the Jacobs family. Events are always better with friends.

Getting our very first henna! 

Mama and Peanut matched and then, just as we were finishing our henna.... it started to pour rain. And I mean pour. E and I put our hands under an umbrella and we made the trek back to the car. It was a fun afternoon and the kids are so excited to go again next year. :)

Shelf Makeover

One afternoon my friend Megan was over and we were chatting, she stopped mid sentence and said "I've never noticed before, but I totally have an idea for your shelves!" She told me her plan and I fell in love!!! 

So Mom and Dad Tobler were here and I suggested a little project and they were happy (I think) to help me. Now I'll say we a lot in the post, but really it was 97% Mom. She spent a lot of time up on that ladder being that my back is a bit temperamental and my center of balance is a bit off being 36 weeks pregnant. Mom was awesome and I'm so thankful for her. First we removed the trim and the header. 

Then we took out the side shelf. We wanted to leave this piece as nice as possible so that we could reuse it with the new shelves. 

Then we pulled off the back and discovered that there were mirrors behind there. 

YUCK!!!! We left the top part secured to the roof to use as an anchor for the new header. 

Then we headed to Home Depot for supplies. We needed 1x8's for the shelves (which would be ripped down with our circular saw to fit), underlay for the backing, and 1x6 boards for the header. 

Got to use a jig saw for the first time and let me tell you, LIFE CHANGED!!!!!

Backboard cut, side board reattached, backboard placed, side board anchored at the base and header attached. 

Repeat for other side. At this point Mom and Dad cut the shelves and then they had to go back to Vegas, and I was left to wood fill, sand and paint. I was SOOOOO in love with them already.

I didn't realize it, but I ended up using at lot of wood filler. I feel that details matter and the previous owners were NOT detail people.

Second and third spot coat. So clean, so fresh!!

I then decided that I wanted to update the hardware. It was only four door handles so a very minimal expense. 

I found these at IKEA and I LOVE how chunky they are!

Jakob came home from his conference and he did the final caulking. Talk about a finishing detail. It just cleaned those seams right up!!!

And the final product. I LOVE LOVE LOVE them!!! I feel the whole space is more balanced, it just looks better!!! I am not in love with my Halloween decor, but I feel that will come in time. 

This was totally one of those projects that wasn't a major renovation but it made a major difference! Once again thanks to Mom and Dad for all of your help. Our plans are to shiplap up the wall where the TV is to finish off the space and to add some lights above the shelves. I also love that this project can be done in stages!! SO HAPPY!
