It's cake day!! I have been looking forward to this for the past month! I {love} creating cakes! I love creating cakes with Mom Tobler even more. I feel like we get one cake a year now and it is just so much more fun working together on something! Plus, Mom makes the best fondant!
We started by shaving off the top edge of the cake to create a dome and then we gave it a crumb coat.
Then we put a layer of fondant on. We forgot just how much this stuff stretches!! We put one layer on and it was WAY too thin so since we had extra we added a second layer which made it MUCH smoother!!!
When we trimmed the cake I kind of liked the idea of having a tail so we left it pretty long so we could add tail feathers and trim later.
This cake was our original inspiration. I was not a fan of the little feet they had, I felt it made it too "song bird" and I wanted "owl." E also requested blue and purple vs the soft pastels.
We started with the face and some eyes!
E is getting old enough to help and it is so much fun to have her contribute!
Next came the beak, eye details and the cheeks.
E and Grammy worked on making leaves.
E was really good at adding the details!
Then we started making flowers.
We made a flower crown and added some toes and she was complete!!!
I am SO in love with her! I love how soft and delicate she it but she also comes with a good pop of color!
I am super into those clean lines and soft curves!
Little details make all the difference!
I also really liked the tail. I feel like it just rounded off the cake as a whole and made it just that much more "realistic".
And just like that another cake is in the books! this was such a fun one to make and I felt while it was detailed that it was fairly straight forward. We didn't have to reinvent the wheel and that was really nice! Looking forward to our next cake adventure!
