Trick or Treat

I have never been a It's-Halloween-Get-All Dressed-Up kind of girl. My mother never took us trick or treating. Only when kids from my class were coming to MY door in the first grade did it finally set in that I was supposed to receive my very own bag stuffed full of candy. I never really got all geared up or put much thought into any costume since then. It doesn't make it very fun when in Canada you make your costume to fit over a snow suit because chances are you will have at least 2 inches of snow by October 31st. Last year Jakob and I went to a friends house where I met Britni for the very first time. This year we decided (last week I might add) to throw a part and invite a few people over. I normally stress out over silly things such as having people over for dinner and parties because every detail must be perfect and clean (what can I say, I am my mother's daughter). And after much stress I decided all of the fuss was not worth it. I made a cake, baked some cookies, decorated my dear apartment and asked guests to bring snacks. And I tell you what I enjoyed myself!!!! We made haunted graham cracker houses, played "Who's Wife is it Anyways?" and "Four Men On A Couch". It was most defiantly a Mormon gathering.

Yes, yes indeed we had twinkle lights that I got 8 strands for $2 at a yard sale and 6 f the 8 worked!!! And we had magical potions that had dry ice in them to add a spooky/ bubbly/ smoky effect.

Take a stab at how many candy's there are in the jar... 277.

Mary Poppins, Chimney Sweeper, Gangster & Pioneer (Yes, that is my mother's Graduation dress)The icing was a little runny! But they made some adorable creations.

Clearly I need to work on my structural integrity but I think it looks quite quaint :)

Th women had to guess noses, and hands. The men, smell and ears. And almost everyone guessed correctly aside from Jakob who didn't recognize my smell. Sad :( lol

Alas, another game: Draw a tattoo on the gangster! Of course we had some masterpieces courtesy of Dukas!

Swine Flu!!!!!

It was a wonderful night!

Feeling the Pressure!

Last week Jakob and I decided that we were going to have a Halloween party to expand our circle of "newly wed" friends. What I didn't know was that I would be working every day this week. I'm feeling the pressure trying to find time to bake, clean, decorate and plan amidst working 2 jobs. Luckily Jakob has most of the evenings off so I can pass the torch to him. I tend to stress out about having company over. My OCD button turns bright red hoping everything will be perfect. I just need to relax and manage my time. It'll be a fun evening even if the pumpkin doesn't get carved. :)

October 17th, 2009

Last week Jakob's friend from high school phoned 3 days before his wedding and asked him to fill in as a groomsmen for someone who couldn't make it. It was a lot of fun to meet some people that Jakob went to school with. They were all very welcoming and absolutely hilarious. I LOVE weddings! Courtney is only a few months older than me so it was nice to have someone to relate to while planning our wedding. It's amazing how in the grooms room the boys still need a woman's help getting ready. Some of them didn't know how to tie ties. Stu looked so handsome and he was just brimming with excitement. It was a very pretty day and they had chosen a fabulous location. Courtney was stunning! We are so happy for them both and wish them all the best for the many years to come. Now it's time for some pictures!

The hardest part was getting Jakob to stop making stupid faces! After a few words he smiled pretty for me.

Unfortunately the ring bearer was a typical 2 1/2 year old. In the middle of the ceremony he freaked out and one of the brides maids had to make an exit. I went to watch the little man so she could take her place in the line.

If you know Stu, you know that he is the biggest goofball ever! During the reception he was break dancing in his tux. It was hilarious! So this picture simply screams Stuart!

Stu coming down the isle getting ready for the ceremony. And Courtney just about to round the corner. She looked stunning!

I loved their photos on the tables. They were all different and from their engagement session. A very cute idea!

And what were the grooms men at the head table doing? Yes that is correct, paying a tribute to Michael Jackson.

It was a very beautiful day and we all wrapped up at 3:00. Once again Congrats to the newly weds!! We love you both so much! xoxo

Masquerade

Trystan and I went on a creative spree and made spooky masks for Halloween. Trystan Loves Halloween and is dressing up as Cruela DeVil! It was a ton of fun making masks together. Jakob and I are wanting to throw a masquerade ball now! The ideas are flowing and it will be and exiting event. Now we need to find a place that would fit 20- 25 people that I can decorate! Hopefully it all comes together by January :) I am exited!

House

I'm addicted!!

Enough said.

Progress... Finally

After much praying and many tears Jakob and I had decided that it was best that I go and get the HPV vaccination, even with another doctor willing to write us a letter saying he disagrees based on my concerns. This drug is very new and the side effects are still under going testing and analysis. Regardless we went and holy crap did it hurt! The needle was huge and it felt like I was being shocked. I am not a fan of needles to begin with but normally I can just smile through them but this was very different. Bottom line it hurt. :(
Upon completion of my medical report, Jakob and I went to the lawyers to sign the final paperwork that is to be sent to immigration pending approval. Approximately 30 pages later and discovering a new case of carpal tunnel we were sent on our way with a list of questions that they might ask us during our interview in a few months. Some of these questions include; Who woke up first this morning? In the car was the heater or the a/c on? What day of the week is the trash picked up? Oh and my favorite: Did you shower this morning? Who showered first? It made me laugh. Now I am well on my way to becoming a legal immigrant and in 3 years I can apply for citizenship and become a dually. Now it's time to gather evidence to say we are married and very much in love. I am exited for this all to be over and done with.

Going Blonde?

Yes, I did in fact just purchase this bad boy online for a whopping $18.00. At work we all wear the same wigs and to most people that is perfectly acceptable. Sometimes my OCD gets the best of me and in this is one of those situations. Having 20 - 25 people all wearing the same piece of matted hair and sweating in it is far more than my germ meter can handle. There are also the people that refuse to maintain the wig and when it is your turn to be Sleeping Beauty or Cinderella, it is in one big ball. Now I have my own and I got it for 1/3 the price I was told was a "good deal". I am indeed looking forward to getting presents in the mail and test driving it to see if I really want to go blonde myself.

It's Autumn Alright

It's October first and Fall has officially arrived! This morning Jakob and I woke up to a chilling 71F in our apartment. I think it is time to put on another blanket on the bed. If only the leaves would change color here. That is my favorite part of fall, the smells. In Canada the trees make a canopy over the street and are brilliant shades of yellow, red, and orange. I must admit that Vegas is beginning to grow on me. It is time to put away the t-shirts and pull out the sweaters. I am in such a "Autumn" mood, I want to decorate! Whenever I go into Wal-Mart I have to run to the seasonal isle to see all of the cute pumpkins and scarecrows. I know this is only going to get harder as Fall progresses to Christmas, after all I am my mothers daughter. I can almost hear the caroling now, well let's not get ahead of ourselves! Time to bake cookies!
