I always look forward to conference with great anticipation. They are my favorite Sunday's of the year. This is our third conference away from home and Gretchen invited us to her house to watch the morning session. I was so looking forward to it. We were put in charge of breakfast and Gretchen was going to make scones for lunch. I had visions of sitting around the table, enjoying breakfast, then the kids would play together in the play room and we would hear words from our beloved prophet..... I was very wrong.
Jakob began to make breakfast. He was rocking out some hootenannies, which he makes every Sunday. all of a sudden we hear a wicked loud crash. The pan had exploded. Literally shattered into a thousand pieces covering the entire floor. Jakob had started heating the pan to melt the butter on the stove top, like he has done since we've been married, and it just exploded! There was butter and glass everywhere and there were five children racing around. A few pieces cut Jakob's leg. It was crazy. Don't worry there was a med student present!
So breakfast was put on hold for another hour while the kitchen was swept, vacuumed, and washed. It was a total accident but a bit awkward.
Breakfast is served. Once breakfast was finished, the kids were WILD. They were everywhere, my vision of a quiet conference surround by friends was a bit off. In the end we just turned it off since we wouldn't hear anyways.
While it wasn't exactly what we had planned it was still nice to be together with friends and hear a talk or two. We have been so blessed!
